The Root Chakra: Muladhara

The Root Chakra: Muladhara is located at the base of the spine, the pelvic floor, and the first three vertebrae.

The word Muladhara breaks down into two Sanskrit words: Mula meaning “root” and Adhara, which means “support” or “base.”

The Root Chakra is also associated with the colour red and is the first of the chakras of matter. Balancing the root chakra creates the solid foundation for opening the chakras above it. Think of it like laying down the foundations of a building. With solid foundations embedded firmly into mother earth it can create stability for years to come.

This chakra is responsible for your sense of safety, security and stability in your life.

These 3 states of life include necessities such as food, water and shelter (as well as a need for safety within these needs). When these needs are met you will feel grounded and be able to let go of fears.

Imbalances in the Root Chakra

If there is an imbalance in the root chakra you may experience anxiety disorders, fears and phobias.

The physical imbalances can manifest into problems within the colon, bladder, lower back, leg and/or feet issues.

The Root Chakra is the foundation for the other chakras to build upon.

How to Balance Muladhara

Hypnosis and meditation can connect you to a higher self. You may not always be able feel comfortable that the world will provide, but connecting to your higher self through hypnosis or meditation will assist you in letting go of fears. Allowing trust to grow so you feel safe.

Colours & Stones

Colours and stones can help bring the root chakra into balance. The root chakra’s colour is red.

Stones such as garnet, red jasper, black tourmaline, and bloodstone can be placed around the body whilst lying down or asleep to assist in aligning the root chakra again.
